Constitution of the Celtic Catholic Church

Preamble

We, the faithful of the Celtic Catholic Church, rooted in the heritage of Celtic Christianity, are governed and led by the Order of Saint Patrick, a modern, semi-contemplative religious community. We establish this Constitution to uphold our faith, advance the Kingdom of God, and operate through ministries of compassion, spiritual restoration, and discipleship. 

Article I: Name and Authority

  1. Name: The name of this body shall be the Celtic Catholic Church (CCC).
  2. Governing Body: The CCC is operated, governed, and spiritually led by the Order of Saint Patrick (OSP).
  3. Founding Authority: The ultimate spiritual and administrative authority is vested in the Superior General of the Order of Saint Patrick.

Article II: Core Beliefs and Liturgical Structure

  1. Foundational Liturgy: The primary liturgical structure for all worship services shall be the 1979 Book of Common Prayer (BCP).
  2. Scripture Study: In place of a traditional lectionary, the Church shall utilize the Wired Word adult Bible study curriculum for regular scriptural reflection and teaching.
  3. Sacramental Understanding: The Church affirms the traditional Catholic understanding of the Sacraments, administered by duly authorized Chaplains.

Article III: Polity, Ministry, and Leadership

  1. Superior General: The Superior General shall oversee the Order and the Church, appoint all Chaplains, and ensure adherence to this Constitution.
  2. Ministerial Role (Chaplains): The Church shall be served by Chaplains who are responsible for all liturgical, teaching, and pastoral duties.
    • Induction: Chaplains are inducted (not ordained) upon successful completion of an approved Certification Program recognized by the Order.
    • Eligibility: Men and women are equally eligible to become Chaplains.
    • Clergy Practice: All inducted Chaplains shall maintain a daily spiritual practice centered on Lectio Divina (Divine Reading).

Article IV: Doctrine on Marriage

 

  1. Definition of Marriage: The Church holds the sacred covenant of marriage to be exclusively between one man and one woman.

Article V: Critical Ministries

  1. Mandate: The Celtic Catholic Church places special emphasis on and shall dedicate significant resources to the following critical ministries:
    • Hospitality Ministry: Dedicated to welcoming, integrating, and providing fellowship for all members and visitors.
    • Senior Ministries: Dedicated to the spiritual, social, and physical well-being of the Church's elder members.
    • Spiritual Restoration Ministry: Dedicated to the work of spiritual healing, intercession, and deliverance, operating under the theological discipline and spiritual authority derived from the OSP's monastic commitment.

Article VI: Commemorations and Holy Days

  1. Special Celebrations: The Church shall give special prominence to the commemoration of:
    • Saint Patrick (March 17th)
    • Our Lady of Knock (August 21st)
